Colin Brown knows the Triangle’s commercial real estate market like the back of his hand. A Raleigh native who has worked in commercial real estate since 1997, Colin has been involved in more than $300 million in sales during his career.

He has a special knack for uncovering properties that are not on the market. A “bird dog” you might say. Colin prides himself on developing long-standing relationships with his clients and has a relentless determination to help them find the perfect location or tenant whether for lease or for sale/purchase.

He, along with partner Brad Rice, established Covenant Commercial Realty in 2016. He previously led Brown Commercial Realty, assisting clients with a wide range of leasing and investment assignments. He has and will continue to work closely with landlords/tenants and buyers/sellers on simple and/or complex transactions involving the leasing of space or sale of office buildings, retail, industrial/flex and investment properties.

Colin is a member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR), a select group of the nation’s most knowledgeable, experienced and successful commercial real estate specialists. He is also a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the North Carolina Association of Realtors (NCAR), the Triangle Area Office Building Association (TRAOBA), and the Triangle Commercial Association of Realtors (TCAR).   After graduating from the University of North Carolina with a business degree, he spent the first … years of his career working in banking, construction, and construction related industries. His work took him as far as Saudi Arabia before he returned to home to his Raleigh roots in 1980.

Colin spent the next 15+ years working with a trio of well-respected brick companies – Cherokee Brick, Custom Brick and Triangle Brick – before entering commercial real estate. He quickly established a reputation as a trusted real estate professional who could always be counted on to provide sound advice and candid feedback.

He is actively involved in the community. He is a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church and currently preparing to travel to Russia for a church mission trip to children’s orphanage. He serves on the NC State Exploratory Studies Advisory Board (formerly called First Year College) and has previously served on the board of the Rex Hospital Foundation and Raleigh Little Theatre. He has been involved with Rex Hospital Open golf tournament (in some form or fashion) since its inception in 1988.   Colin has three grown sons. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and play golf.

Brad Rice, Principal

Office: (919) 783-7775
Mobile: (919) 632-0052

As a founding principal of Covenant Commercial Realty, Brad Rice has had a long and multi-faceted real estate career.  He began his career at the height of the Savings and Loan crisis in 1989 with the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC), predecessor to the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC).  The RTC was the federal government’s vehicle to deal with problem real estate loans and dispose of foreclosed property.

From the government, Mr. Rice went to work for First Union National Bank (predecessor to Wachovia Bank and Wells Fargo Bank) in the Commercial Real Estate Lending Department.  He worked on both the credit underwriting side of the bank as well as loan origination.  Mr. Rice was with the bank in both Charlotte and Raleigh, N.C.

In 1998 Mr. Rice went to work for a Raleigh based office development and management company as the Chief Financial Officer, and eventually its Chief Operating Officer.  His responsibilities included analyzing potential development opportunities, monitoring cash flow analysis on numerous entities, and negotiating leases, loans, partnerships, venture investments, etc.  Mr. Rice maintained relationships with the company’s banks, attorneys, insurance companies, development partners, and accounting firms.

Mr. Rice joined Starmount Company, a 75-year old development company based in Greensboro, N.C., in 2001.  Starmount hired Mr. Rice to diversify its portfolio outside of its base in Greensboro with a new operation in the Triangle market of North Carolina.  Starmount’s assets were eventually sold in 2008 for $538 million dollars.  During his almost eight-year stint with Starmount, the company’s portfolio in the Triangle grew by almost 800,000 square feet of retail and office properties.  Mr. Rice managed the Raleigh office’s development, leasing, and property management operation.  He negotiated leases, property management, development, and operating agreements.  In addition, he negotiated and oversaw significant equity investments made by Starmount in various projects.

After the sale of Starmount Company, Mr. Rice joined Midland Atlantic Development Company, a long time partner of Starmount, in their Durham, N.C. office.  In July of 2009 Mr. Rice left Midland Atlantic to pursue the goal of owning his own company, Dovetail Real Estate, LLC.

Mr. Rice is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  He is a licensed real broker in the state of North Carolina.  He is married with two children.  Mr. Rice is active in his community with various charitable organizations, his church, and coaching youth sports.
